Not too many things make Mr. Hockey cry...

The sculpture by Omri Amrany of Highland Park, Ill., depicts Howe in the act of shooting and recreates the motion using four different full-length sticks, the shaft of another, the puck flying off one of the sticks and flying ice chips.
It is 6 feet, 4 inches from the base to the top of Howe's head. The base, which is inscribed with statistical and biographical information on Howe on each of the four sides, weighs 3,000 pounds.

But this did...
The Detroit Red Wings honoured Gordie Howe yesterday, by unveiling a new 1 500 pound gold statue of Howe inside the West entrance of the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Gordie Howe was touched.

"Not too may things choke me up," said the 79-year old Howe," ... so I guess that's the way of expressing the feeling that I have."

The Hall of Famer spent 25 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and his tenure is one that will never be forgotten.

He holds the record for seasons played (26), and he second all time with 801 goals (behind we all know who) and third all-time with 1850 points.

Mr. Hockey won 4 Cups, 6 Art Ross trophies, 6 Hart trophies and was an NHL All-Star an impressive 20 times.
This is a classy move by Mike Illitch, the Wings' owner and the entire Detroit organisation.
At least now, there is something in Detroit that will forever portray the image Gordie Howe showed the hockey world on the ice.
I wonder if Howe gets free season tickets to the Joe Louis Arena like Jean Beliveau does at the Bell Centre?
